Mighty Do-Gooders Run 5K for Mito Kids

Participants arrived early at the Town Center in El Dorado Hills for the 5K run benefiting the Mito Kids Foundation. This was a combined philanthropic effort from both the Interact Club from Oak Ridge High School, led by student leader Nick Bennet, and the El Dorado Hills Rotary Club. The purpose of this event was to bring awareness about Mitochondria disease to the community and help fill the gap of the expensive costs of treatment that insurances do not cover. The Nugget Market fueled the participants with healthy snacks who were already energized by Zia’s coffee. Runners and walkers took off from the starting line with announcer Josh Nisbet from The Poster Child Band, who kept everyone’s enthusiasm high. The kids’ faces were all smiles as they enjoyed the additional activities including face-painting, bubbles, and temporary tattoos. Guests of honor for the event, Avery, Taylor, and Morgan Spry, are three sisters suffering from Mitochondria disease. Raffle prizes donated to the cause included an autographed 49ers football and a gift basket from Snap Fitness. Swagherr, a women’s clothing boutique, was a perfect vendor for an already perfect day. Special thanks to Chili’s and Coldstone, which donated a portion of their sales to the Mito Kids Foundation. Additional sponsors included Mercedes Benz of El Dorado Hills, Oncore Consulting, and Wells Fargo. This event raised more than $10,000 for the Mito Kids Foundation which will change the lives of many families affected by the disease.
